A Magical Pencil

Once upon a time there was a young man named Philip. He lived in a small town in England. He was a portrait painter. But just a few people who asked him to draw. So his income wasn’t much. Even he wasn’t rich, he was very kind and friendly. He liked to help his neighbor to work in the vineyard. It made the villager love him so much.
One day, Philip was resting under a shady tree after working in the vineyard of his neighbor. He ate bread which he brought from home. It was the last bread which he had. Suddenly a poor old woman sat next to him. She looked very tired and starving. Without hesitation he offered his bread. “Would you like to eat this bread? But it is not tender bread. It’s the only that I have,” he said. With eyes full of gratitude, she immediately took the bread and ate it. After the bread was gone, she took a shabby bag from her clothes pocket. She said, “I cannot pay you for this bread. I can only give you this. But remember to use it only if you really need it.” Phillip accepted it. Suddenly the poor old woman disappeared. With curiosity, he opened the bag. It was a very nice pencil. It made of old oak and there was a beautiful engraving on it.
In the way back to his house, he just realized that he was very hungry. But he knew he had nothing to eat. So, Philip drew all the food he wanted using that mysterious pencil and thought he ate it for real. He drew a roast, bread, some fruits, and a bottle of wine. Miraculously, after he had finished the drawing, all the dishes were already on the dining table. “It’s a magical pencil,” Philip said. Without any further do, he ate all of the dishes. He was very full and fell asleep until the next morning. After that day, when he starving and didn’t have something to eat, he just has to drew the food. But it made him lazier to work.
Day by day passed and he wanted to marry the most beautiful girl in neighboring village, Lucy. But he realized that he didn’t have a good tuxedo to propose her. And then he remembered about that pencil and drew an elegant and classy tuxedo immediately. Not took a long time,  he married the girl.
In the beginning, Lucy thought that Philip was very rich. It didn’t match the reality. Philip did not have a decent job but they can eat a tasty food every day. It made her confused. And then she asked Philip about it. “Have you stolen all of this food?” she said. Philip answer, “How dare you to judge me like that! What’s the matter honey?” She said, “I just confused we can eat a tasty and expensive dish every day, but your job only a painter.” Finally Philip told everything to Lucy.
Then Lucy persuaded Philip to draw all she wanted, like a luxurious castle, a lot of gold coins, horse-drawn carriage, and a closet full of the dress. He agreed it and started to draw. Strangely after Philip had finished the picture it was not become real. Suddenly the voice of poor old woman echoed and said, ”You have forgot what I said before. Use it only if you really need it. Now it is just an ordinary pencil.” Philip and Lucy wept and regretted their actions. But it was late.
After that day, Philip and Lucy continued regret and forget to work hard. So they couldn’t change their life. They always blame on each other. They never lived happily. It was all because of their greed.
